ONGOING MEN'S OPPORTUNITIES AT CARMEL LUTHERAN
Bulletin Board
Check out the A-Men Bulletin Board periodically for current information. It is located along the hallway connecting the main sanctuary to door #6, near the west kitchen.
Bibles and Bagels
Bibles and Bagels is a Bible study for men of all ages at the church on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month at 7:30 a.m. Breakfast in the West Cafeteria and Bible study in Room 101B. The meeting starts with coffee, donuts or other sweet stuff (seldom bagels), and friendly banter about sports or world events. Then, it moves to prayer time and some serious study of the Scripture. Typically, the study follows a selected book of the Bible. However, it may follow a particular subject that Scripture can illuminate upon. Bibles and Bagels is a great way to start the weekend. Sessions adjourn faithfully at 9:00. There is a wealth of maturity and Godly wisdom available and everyone is welcome.
G.I.F.T. -- Guys in Fellowship Together
Wednesdays, 6:15 - 7:30 am (room 102A), during the school year. This men's Bible study, led by Mark Borcherding, DCE, shares fellowship, the Word of God and lots of coffee. Join us for a walk through the book of Acts as we grow in our understanding of discipleship as we watch the early church grow and learn of its history. Join us for this compelling Bible study. Join us for this compelling study. You won't be disappointed.

SERVICE PROJECTS

Service Opportunity
A-Men, the men's ministry of Carmel Lutheran, regularly volunteers mind and muscle to LDM (Lutheran Disabilities Ministry). LDM continues to build/remodel its Camp and Retreat Center in Anderson, and we want to help them keep costs down by providing manpower. We have helped out may times at this site, and it is rewarding to see the progress.
We often go to LDM on a Saturday morning, from about 9:00 a.m. - noon. When participating, it's a good idea to bring work gloves and boots. We assist with many different projects, like cleaning up the grounds, pulling nails from boards, hauling wood, etc. You are always encouraged to invite friends, and this is a good opportunity for high-schoolers who are looking for community service projects.
Usually, we meet at the main church parking lot and caravan/car pool to the LDM Camp and Retreat Center, located at 4038 S. Ridgeview Rd., in Anderson.
Shaun Scholer is the CLC point man for this effort. For more information about this service opportunity, contact Shaun Scholer at 317-414-0889 or at shaun.scholer@att.net.
*LDM is an independent inter-denominational ministry recognized by the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod, affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and is a member of the Lutheran Services in America. LDM's mission is equipping the church to minister to people who have developmental disabilities. For more information on LDM, go to www.ldminc.org.

FRIENDSHIP SATURDAYS Needs You!
Friendship Saturdays give a respite to caregivers of mentally challenged adults. CLC hosts these events the first and second Saturdays of each month, October through May 2008. The hours are 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., but help for any portion of that time is appreciated. The busiest times are 9:00-noon and 3:00-5:00 p.m. Meals are provided (volunteers are needed for that also).
No special skills or talents are required. The most important thing is to give guests some attention. That involves helping with crafts, playing games, and just plain having fun. You'll feel thankful and rewarded after you've spent time with these special children of God.
Please contact Edith Mossner at 571-1802 (home) or 815-4911 (work); e-mail: edith.mossner@thrivent.com or mossner@indy.net.

THIRD ANNUAL A-MEN RETREAT
Save the dates!
NOVEMBER 1-2, 2008 (Sat-Sun)
The third annual A-Men Retreat will be held again at Camp Allendale, a short drive south of Indianapolis near Trafalgar. We had a great two days of fun and Christian fellowship last year at this beautiful facility. None of us will forget watching or playing human foosball, the spirited interactive lessons, the gorgeous late fall vistas and the campfire talk and song.
This year, attendees will have the choice of staying overnight and leaving Sunday after lunch OR making it a one-day trip returning home late Saturday night.
This is a great opportunity for men who are new to CLC, long time members, guys who are rookies in their faith, or for those who are well-versed in scripture and Christian thought. It's a great way to make new friends and to re-establish old bonds.
The cost will be in the $40-$60 range including meals. Space will be limited to 30-50 depending on how many return home Saturday night vs. the number who stay overnight and remain on Sunday for breakfast and lunch. Please let us know ASAP if you are interested (without committing) so we have a good idea of demand. RSVP to Jeff Jones at indjbj@aol.com or 317-848-2053.
For a preview of the site and for directions, check out www.camp-allendale.org. Check out the zip line - Leap of Faith!

ABOUT A-MEN
top of page
"If you're a man at Carmel Lutheran Church, you're a member of A-Men."
Mission: To grow and enrich the faith, fellowship and servanthood of men in Christ.
We'd like you to consider the following results of a survey completed a few years ago and reported by Focus on the Family.
- If a child is the first person in a household to become a Christian, there is only a 3.5% probability that everyone else in the household will follow.
- If the mother is the first to accept Christ, there is only a 17% chance the rest of the family will.
- But if the man (husband, father) is the first person in a home to become a Christian, there is a 93% probability that the rest of a family will follow.
