2006 Panama Mission Trip

Eighteen members of Carmel Lutheran Church and one other from Denver, Colorado went to Panama in April to assist in the ongoing effort to construct a 2006 Panana Mission Triptwo-story addition to the church in Loma Cova, Arraijan. They stuccoed and painted the walls of the lower portion making it usable for education classes, installed a kitchen counter and sink, and ran water and electrical lines into the addition. They also laid six-plus rows of block around the perimeter and in some of the interior of the upper portion of the building which will used as living quarters for the Pastor and his family. Most importantly of all, they made new friends and furthered their bonds with God's people at Dios es Grande ("God is Great") Lutheran Church in Loma Cova.

Since this is an ongoing project, you can visit the Panama Website of Marc and Cheryl Cohen (Missionaries) for further background and updates.

Seventeen members of Carmel Lutheran Church went to Panama to work on the drainage issues at the church in Loma Cova. A few months prior to their arrival, Bob Jacobs (of Carmel Lutheran) went to Panama to make a plan for fixing the drainage issue. When this team arrived in February, they put that plan into action. They worked for five long days digging in the Panama heat to create a wonderfully working drainage system for which the residents in Loma Cova are so thankful. This drainage system also provided the foundation for the playground project that was to come.

2004 Panama Mission Trip

2004 Panama Mission TripA team of 18 members of Carmel Lutheran, Gloria Dei Lutheran of Houston Texas, Holy Cross Lutheran of Lake Mary, Florida, and (Historic) Trinity Lutheran of St. Louis, Missouri working through CALMS, spent an unforgettable week in Los Andes, Panama.

Working with members of Gloria Dei Lutheran in Los Andes, they constructed a safety/security fence in both the front and the back of the church and erected a playground which the congregation uses as a means to reach out into their community.
