We always need to be transformed by God’s Word, no matter how old we are. We continue to need guidance from God so that we can live in the world without being overcome by the world.Through the year we have a wealth of opportunities on Sunday mornings, weekday evenings, weekday mornings, and Saturdays. The schedule of classes are as follows:
SUNDAY MORNING: 9:30 - 10:20 AM
Join us on Sunday mornings (9:30-10:20 a.m.) for Bible class! We offer eight Sunday morning Adult Bible Classes from which you can choose. Classes range in size and also in style—from presentation, to group study, to video-guided, to discussion. (The classes will end on Sunday, March 16, 2008.) Becoming a Disciple of CLC: "Discover Carmel Lutheran" – A class for anyone wishing to learn more about the Lutheran faith and how to become a disciple (member) of Carmel Lutheran Church. (Led by CLC staff in room 102.)
Bible Study for Men: "Man In The Mirror" & "Quiet Strength" – The first five weeks we will look at characteristics of a Christian man using the book "The Man In the Mirror". Then, we’ll study Tony Dungy’s award winning book, "Quiet Strength". This class will be discussion and discovery oriented (room 121).
Bible Study for Women: "Adventurous Prayer" – In a small intimate setting you will pray and learn how to pray as you follow the book Adventurous Prayer. (Led by Johanna Hilpert in the Seniors’ Lounge.)
Christian Parenting: "Value Packed Parenting" – A video-enhanced series with internationally acclaimed Christian psychologist Dr. Kevin Leman, usung humor, scripture, and psychology to teach you how to pack Christian values into your children. (Led by Ron & Brenda
Himler in room 101A.)
In-Depth Bible Study: "Leviticus" – Discover the duties and traditions of the Levites and priests during the beginning of Israel’s history. This is a fascinating book of history, moral laws, and Hebrew traditions. (Led by Al Weihe, Bill Mossner, Dick Culter, Waite Archer, and others in room 127.)
The Life of Jesus: "Passion" – A study on the passion of Jesus and Holy Week. You will take a guided walk with Jesus through the events of the passion that lead up to and include His death and resurrection. This is a timely study during Lent. (Led by Tom Gambrel in room 101B.)
Music & Worship: "Handel’s Messiah" (beginning February 10) – Learn the Biblical and historical background of the songs in Handel’s oratorio, "The Messiah". The Messiah will be presented by our music ministry on Palm Sunday, March 16. (Led by Tim Juerensen in the Choral Hall.)
Our Lutheran Heritage: "Foundations in Faith" – This class will take an in-depth look at what we as Lutherans believe in the Apostle’s Creed and the Sacraments. This is great for those new to Lutheran doctrine or those who would like to know more so they can be informed when sharing what they believe as a Lutheran Christian. (Led by John Swayze in room 123.)
Pastors’ Class: "Peacemaking: A Biblical Approach to Resolving Personal Conflict" – Based on the book The Peacemaker by Ken Sande, we will discover a biblical approach to resolving conflict based on "The Four G’s":
- Glorify God
- Get the Log Out of Your Eye
- Gently Restore
- Go and be Reconciled
Rather than view conflict as a divisive influence, this approach sees it as an opportunity to strengthen relationships, preserve valuable resources, and make lives a testimony to the love and power of Jesus Christ at work among us. (Led by Pastor Don, Pastor Dan, and Pastor Luther in the Gym.)
Personal Finances: "The Road to Financial Freedom" – Learn how to develop financial freedom by applying biblical principles to your personal and family financial planning. Led by Bryan Klemm, financial consultant and CLC disciple, you will learn to apply Biblical principles to your financial planning using a program from Crown Financial Ministries (room 100A).
Sharing Your Faith: "The Case for Faith" – Using the Bible and the book The Case for Faith by Lee Strobel, you will learn how to build a case for faith and share it with others. Strobel turns his investigation skills to the most persistent emotional objections to belief—the 8 heart barriers to faith. You will enjoy the whimsical and knowledgeable teaching style of Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Rollin Kuznik (room 100B).

LIFT (Ladies in Fellowship Together) - "Paul’s Missionary Journeys" -
Tuesday mornings, 9:15-11:00 a.m.
We’ll follow Paul on his four journeys as he preaches the Gospel to the gentiles and visits the cities that later become recipients of his letters (the Epistles). Led by Mark Borcherding in room 102.
"Living Beyond Yourself: Exploring the Fruit of the Spirit" - Thursday mornings at 9:15 a.m.
By maintaining an intimate relationship with the Spirit of God, He is able to develop within you the fruit of a Spirit-filled life. This Beth Moore study requires 30-45 minutes of preparation five days a week. (Workbook is $15.)
"A Study of Philippians" - Thursday mornings at 9:15 a.m.
How do I live the Christian life joyfully regardless of people or circumstances? Discover true, deep-down joy in your life that the world cannot take away! This inductive Bible Study uses materials from Precept Ministries and requires about 45 minutes of preparation five days a week. This 17-week study meets beginning January 10. (Workbook is $28.)
"Having a Real Relationship with God" - Wednesday evening from 5:30-6:30 p.m., during Cross Training (midweek classes for children)
This study does not require any at home preparation. Come and spend a relaxing hour in stimulating discussion around God’s Word. (Workbook is $7. Led by Annette Coulombe.)

Especially For Men
G.I.F.T. – Guys in fellowship Together - Wednesday mornings, 6:30-7:30 a.m. (rm 102)
This class is for men but follows the same material as the women do in LIFT (Ladies in Fellowship Together, see class information above). So if a husband and wife want to discuss what they are studying they have that opportunity. But your wife does not have to be in LIFT for you to be in GIFT. Coffee is provided.
Bibles and Bagels - 2nd and 4th Saturdays, 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. (rm 102)
This is a men’s fellowship and group discussion study of God’s Word that always begins with a light breakfast, including coffee and juice, and applying the Word of God to who we are as men in this world. Various members of the group share the leadership of the study.
